Kay County elects Jeff Kreger chairman and Jason Shanks vice-chair; commissioners approve routine administrative items

At its Jan. 5 meeting the Kay County BOCC elected Jeff Kreger as Chairman and Jason Shanks as Vice-Chairman for 2026 and approved routine items including prior minutes, election-board salary reimbursement and a 72.5-cent mileage rate effective Jan. 1, 2026.
The Board of County Commissioners formally elected leadership for 2026 during the Jan. 5 meeting: Commissioner Jeff Kreger was elected Chairman and Commissioner Jason Shanks was elected Vice-Chairman. The motion to elect leadership carried unanimously.
Commissioners also approved routine administrative actions: they approved the Dec. 29, 2025 meeting minutes, authorized reimbursement for the State for the Election Board Secretary’s December 2025 salary, and set the county mileage reimbursement rate at 72.5 cents per mile effective Jan. 1, 2026 to match the Internal Revenue Service rate. All motions recorded in the minutes passed by unanimous vote.
The board adjourned at 9:59 a.m. after completing these administrative items.
