Council adopts consent agenda accepting multiple state grants totaling over $3.8 million

The council adopted a multi-item consent agenda that included grant acceptances and appropriations across several departments.
City Clerk Deborah White read each item: $1,000 from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management for radiological emergency preparedness; $2,100 from the Virginia Department of Social Services for a family partnership initiative; $564,882 from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services for victim‑witness services; $679,283 for local probation and pretrial services; $40,000 of inmate canteen revenue appropriated to the sheriff’s office; $92,000 from the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services for peer family support services; $1,500,000 from DBHDS for adult outpatient competency restoration services; $830,462 for permanent supportive housing services for adults with serious mental illness; and $187,577.96 for substance use disorder services and training.
A council member moved and seconded the consent agenda and the clerk announced an electronic vote of 6–0 to adopt the items. The appropriations bring multiple state-funded programs into the FY2027 budget and authorize staff to implement the grants described.
