Members of the Hanover County Community Services Board Legislative Advocacy Committee agreed to pursue direct outreach to the Board of Supervisors members who appointed them to explain the value of the county’s school-based mental health program. Johna Jones initiated questions about the substance of those meetings, which led the committee to identify advocacy messages and the need for specific program data.
Chair Carol McDaid said she would raise the program with appropriate staff for Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger because, she said, "education and mental health are important issues for the incoming administration." The committee asked staff to compile funding detail and other materials to support those meetings and to share them with CSB members prior to any outreach.
