Council adopts rollback millage rate of 6.2375 and schedules Sept. 14 public hearing

"If we went to the rollback rate, it would save us about $21,000 at 6.2375," the finance presentation said.
Councilmembers discussed the trade-offs between maintaining revenue and avoiding the appearance of a tax increase on trim notices; one council member said the difference was small but symbolically important. A motion to adopt the rollback millage of 6.2375 was made, seconded and approved; the council also set the public hearing date for September 14 for public input on the millage rate.
Staff noted state requirements on how increases are described and that, under state calculations, a 0.2% increase must be read into the record when applicable. The action taken was to set the tentative rate at the rollback level and to provide public notice and a hearing on the scheduled date.
