Planning director unveils multi‑use trail plan to link parks, schools and business corridors

Ansel Rodriguez, GIS/community planner, presented a proposed multi‑use trail intended to create connectivity among parks, schools and business districts across Zephyrhills. Rodriguez described the route’s spine beginning at San Pasco Park, running up Austin Avenue, connecting to South Avenue and Zephyr Park, and continuing to 8th Street and Hercules Park; staff said the Community Redevelopment Agency would help extend and manage portions where indicated.
Rodriguez said some segments already have 8‑foot sections and that the plan calls for upgrading sidewalks and adding bollards, signage and other features to make these segments feel like a trail rather than a standard sidewalk. “So the green areas right now currently have an 8 foot wide trail… we wanna turn this into an 8 foot wide trail,” Rodriguez said. Councilmembers welcomed the plan as a spine with future looped 'ribs' to connect neighborhoods and destinations such as the military museum and existing Simons trail.
