Local victim services group urges residents to use free resources during Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Kenosha Alexander, executive director of a regional violence center, asked the Carver County Board to recognize April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and described the center's free services to survivors, including counseling, medical advocacy at forensic exams, legal advocacy for protection orders, and long‑running multidisciplinary teams that coordinate case support.
"We provide services to Carver, Hennepin, and Scott Counties," Alexander said. "Those services are free services to the community. They include supportive services like counseling, medical advocacy... and legal advocacy." She told commissioners the center also facilitates court accompaniment and survivor support through long‑running multidisciplinary teams in Carver County.
Commissioner Anderson thanked Alexander for the work and noted the emotional weight of the services the center provides; the board approved the proclamation recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month by voice vote.
