Alternative program reports credit recovery gains and high suspension counts

The Learning Academy currently has 55 students enrolled and has served 89 students so far this school year, the program reported to the Dunns County Board of Education. "From August to December, our average was 67.97%," the presenter (S5) said, noting benchmark testing places students on average about four grade levels behind in reading and six in math.
S5 said the program measures progress using benchmark testing, attendance and credit-recovery rates, and reported that students have earned a combined 101.5 credits during recent placements. The presenter also described behavioral supports and interventions, including a new anti-vaping curriculum and plans to expand math interventions alongside existing reading supports, to help students return to traditional settings when appropriate.
