Parks staff describe Ledges stairway mock-up, Optimus Park repairs and fall events

Chad, the parks operations lead, described progress across several park projects. He said construction crews built a full-scale mock-up to set foundations for a stairway on the Ledges Trail and that 32 footings are being installed to support the new stair structure. Chad also described cleanup at Optimus Park after a recent tornado-like storm, removal of aging vault toilets with plans for permanent restroom replacements, and demolition of roughly 250 feet of boardwalk at Keeney Park to reduce vandalism and re-route users.
Parks programming staff Ethan said two of four monitors at the Lincoln Bridal Nature Center are installed, with an anticipated opening by the end of September, and previewed fall events: a selective forest harvest in late October or early November to improve ecosystem health and a 'pumpkin truck' community composting event scheduled for Nov. 1. Staff said they are also exploring an online pavilion reservation system to replace the current phone-in process.
