Matt, from the road commission, presented a multi-topic update on county transportation projects and maintenance. He said three federal-aid bridge preventative maintenance projects (Bunker, Waverly and Mulligan) are complete and that work on Angel Road "is supposed to start about the 18th of this month and take 6 to 7 weeks," reflecting a larger schedule of repairs and detours. Matt also reported Bellevue Highway resurfacing is nearly complete and that about 65% of planned paving is finished countywide.
On more complex projects, Matt described a surcharge and reconstruction strategy for the Mower-to-Matthews segment pending permitting, and noted Nixon, Davis and Mount Hope work is underway with rolling surcharge operations where peat and poor soils require staged remediation. He summarized non-millage work with townships (50/50 cost sharing for chip seal sections) and said the road commission placed at least two county drain culvert replacements this year. Matt also announced a new director of engineering, Eric Daring, and said the commission is pursuing a plan to catch up on outstanding drain assessments and bank intercounty drain payments by October.
