The City of Central voted to support an application to the federal Carbon Reduction Program (CRP) to fund the Beaver Bayou Greenway, a corridor project identified in the city's draft Greenway master plan as a top priority near Sutter High.
Presenters told council the city already owns the right-of-way for the corridor and that preconstruction costs would include an environmental assessment because the route contains waters of the U.S. The CRP administrator noted available funds and a deadline to obligate money by Sept. 30; the council held a roll call vote with all members recorded as "yes." Council members and staff discussed cost estimates, ownership of right-of-way and next steps to finalize an application and preconstruction scope.
The resolution was sponsored by Council Members Laverne and Lazaro; staff and a presenter (identified in the discussion as April) said the project had been prioritized in the draft Greenway master plan and that the presentation would be followed by technical memos and cost notes.
