Local Eagle Scout proposes sensory learning spaces for Oradell Public School

Andrew Gossa addressed the council July 28 to present his planned Eagle Scout project for Oradell Public School. He said the project will clean parts of the LLD classrooms and construct sensory spaces to support students' emotional regulation and STEM learning.
Gossa told the council he has met with OPS administrators including the principal and the director of special services and consulted classroom teachers. "My project entails me and at least 9 other scouts from troop 36 cleaning the areas within the LLD classrooms that we plan to use and building sensory spaces that provide materials to stimulate all 5 senses for the kids within the classrooms," he said. He estimated materials would cost roughly $500 and said he would raise funds through family-and-friend fundraising.
Council members thanked Gossa for the plan and had no substantive objections; the mayor and council welcomed the troop's volunteer contribution to local schools.
