Residents press Huachuca City on water taste, aging pipes and smart meters

Several residents described longstanding complaints about water taste and aging infrastructure during the CDBG public hearing. "The water is bad, the past 7 years my dog doesn’t even drink the water," resident Frances Mock said, prompting Town Manager Suzanne Harvey to reply that the town conducts required monthly tests and posts consumer reports showing compliance.
SEAGO staff said a water-infrastructure assessment would help identify failing mains and guide a grant application. William Osborne advised that State Special Projects funding can cover design and engineering to make larger rehabilitation projects shovel-ready for later CDBG construction dollars; he also flagged smart meters as a possible scope to improve usage monitoring and customer billing. Councilmembers asked staff to include water-system assessment or meter replacement on the town’s compiled project list so the town can pursue the appropriate funding stream.
