Commissioners flag state-level pressures on local land-use authority; note relevance to industrial solar

Clerk Josh Hahn alerted commissioners to an upcoming Virginia Association of Planning District Commissions (VAPDC) webinar in February on a toolkit from the American Farmland Trust. Mr. Ken Johnson and Mr. Hahn said they plan to attend and offered the webinar link to other commissioners.
Mr. Johnson summarized a recent VAPDC session and said he anticipated state-level activity this General Assembly that could limit local land-use authority, stating that "local governments will be on the defense this year relative to state mandates restricting local authority over some land uses." Commissioners noted that such state-level trends could be pertinent to local debates over industrial solar and other land-use matters and encouraged colleagues to monitor legislation.
