Lemuel Hancock, Shenandoah County Director of Community Development, told the Citizens Advisory Committee that the county was successful in its AARP grant application to help expand housing opportunities, especially for older residents who wish to age in place. Hancock described eligible project ideas including garage conversions, basement conversions, remodeling older buildings into apartments, and attached or detached ADUs on existing properties.
Hancock said the county will involve town governments in the competition, asked CAC members to spread the word, and set a sign-up deadline: "The sign-up deadline for interested owners is September 1st," he said. After that date, properties will be selected and the plans showcased.
