Commissioners highlight wildfire risks, landfill fire and federal advocacy

Commissioners also reported a small fire at the county landfill over the weekend that prompted local response but did not become a major incident.
The board discussed sustainability efforts, recycling access, and the county27s work supporting nonprofits and human services under changing benefit structures. Chair and other commissioners said they had met with U.S. Sen. Hickenlooper to emphasize western Colorado27s wildfire risks, watershed protection and the resource strains that rural first responders face. Commissioners urged residents to take simple actions such as following the county27s online recycling guide and exercising caution with campfires and other ignition sources.
