DSS reports $502,000 LIHEAP allocation; $211,000 remains after 279 applications

Wilkes County Department of Social Services Director Kevin Brown updated the Board on the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and monthly caseload reports on Jan. 6.
Brown said the county was allocated $502,000 for the program, has processed 279 applications and currently has $211,000 remaining. He described application routes including online (EPass), phone, mail and in person at the College Street office and said the quickest application method is by phone. Brown also thanked the community for generous support of foster children during the holidays.
He reviewed November caseload reports for foster care, adoption services, child-development subsidies and related financial reports as part of the department update.
