Humane Society of Wilkes honored for rescuing 701 animals in past year

Shelter Manager Mark Bowers said the group "rescued 701 animals from the shelter this year," and Animal Services Director Bruce Johnson told the Board the award was to show appreciation for the rescue group’s work. Members of The Humane Society of Wilkes attended to accept the recognition. County leaders thanked both the shelter staff and volunteers and encouraged the public to follow the shelter’s Facebook page to see the volume of animals passing through the center.
The Board and shelter staff said the county plans to continue the annual recognition going forward.
