Board declines Bristol request to change casino revenue split, opts to 'stay the course'

County Administrator Stephen A. Boyer briefed supervisors on Bristol's request that other localities reduce their shares of Hard Rock casino proceeds so Bristol could receive a larger portion to address landfill costs. Boyer said Grayson County received $625,000 in 2024, $713,000 in 2025 and $941,000 in 2026, funds that the county currently allocates for school, EMS and sheriff purposes. He warned that changing the agreement requires Board action and state approval and could risk the General Assembly altering allocations.
After discussion Supervisor C.S. “Sandy” Cunningham moved that the county 'stay the course' with the existing revenue-sharing arrangement; Supervisor Mary E. Dickenson Tomlinson seconded and the motion carried 5-0. The Board did not direct staff to propose immediate allocation changes and left the existing local formula in place.
