Board adopts Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics; clerk reminds members about closed-session confidentiality

At the Jan. 8 organizational meeting the Grayson County Board of Supervisors adopted both a Code of Conduct and a Code of Ethics. The documents underscore expectations for members to prepare for meetings, treat colleagues and citizens courteously, avoid conflicts of interest, and refrain from private communications with applicants about pending agenda items. The board adopted both documents by unanimous vote.
Before the vote, Stephen A. Boyer reminded the board of the importance of confidentiality around closed-session deliberations. "Things spoken about in closed session should stay in closed session," Mr. Boyer said while presenting the documents. The adopted Code of Ethics reiterates that members should avoid engaging in private discussions about upcoming items and should forward any private communications about agenda items to the board secretary so the information can be shared with all members.
