Board names Elk Creek bridge for Master Corrections Officer Jeremy Lewis Hall

The Grayson County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 8, 2026 voted unanimously to request that the Commonwealth Transportation Board name the US 21 bridge over Elk Creek the "Master Corrections Officer Jeremy Lewis Hall Memorial Bridge." County Administrator Stephen A. Boyer told the Board he had met with Warden McCoy and received a letter of recommendation from the Department of Corrections; the county will pay for producing, placing and maintaining the sign while VDOT will install it.
The adopted resolution cites Section 33.2-213 of the Code of Virginia, which authorizes the CTB to name state bridges and requires localities to pay for signs. Supervisor Mary E. Dickenson Tomlinson moved to approve the resolution; Supervisor C.S. “Sandy” Cunningham seconded the motion and the roll-call vote was recorded as five ayes. The Board waived a public reading of the full resolution because the name will be read at a formal presentation to the family.
