Rangers report 1,097 gallons of trash collected and ongoing stewardship efforts across county hotspots

The ranger representative reported a total of “1,097 gallons of trash” collected this month, including large items such as mattresses and furniture at recurring dump sites.
Rangers said regular presence in high-use areas (Shavano, Burmak, County Road 45) helps reduce impacts and suggested exploring camp hosts, additional trailhead signage and coordinated patrols with BLM and county staff. Commissioners thanked the rangers and asked staff to continue identifying funding and partner options for longer-term stewardship and campground upkeep.
