CAPCOG officials describe decade of regional funding wins for infrastructure

Bob Showers (former CAPCOG chair, Clinton County commissioner) and Steve Japinga (Lansing Regional Chamber/CAPCOG staff) described the organization's mission of coordinating Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties with Michigan State University and the Lansing Regional Chamber to advocate for infrastructure appropriations. Showers said CAPCOG has helped the region secure hundreds of millions of dollars over the past decade for transportation, water and other projects and stressed bipartisan cooperation.
Japinga and Showers highlighted specific priorities and noted recent opportunities created by regional chairs of appropriations in the state legislature. Showers told the board CAPCOG has secured more than "$500,000,000, just one time for the region of these 10 years." Commissioners thanked the presenters and noted the group's work had helped Eaton County obtain projects and increased the county's visibility when competing for state funds.
