The Rosemount Planning Commission unanimously approved the site plan review for remodeling and additions to Fire Station 2 (13581 Azalea Avenue), accepting staff’s recommendation and conditions. City staff presented the project scope—expanded dormitories, fitness and quiet rooms, additional apparatus space and preservation/planting plans—and confirmed setbacks and height comply with the R-1 zoning district.
Fire Chief Kip Springer explained the remodel supports a move toward a 24/7 staffing model and that the city has applied for a SAFER grant to add nine full-time firefighters, which would allow three on duty per shift; he described the department as a "combination" model that would retain some paid-on-call staffing. Chief Springer said the station will remain operational during construction with some apparatus and staff shifts as necessary. The commission voted to approve the site plan subject to conditions A–C.
