County administrator warns of delayed financial data, lists infrastructure and community projects

Bamberg County Administrator Joey R. Preston told council the county Treasurer is expected to complete accounts the following week and urged that council receive more timely financial data to help prepare the county budget. He said temporary assistance from other county financial staff had been offered to the Treasurer but declined, and he scheduled a Finance Committee meeting for Jan. 8 to address timing needs.
Preston also briefed council on ongoing projects and events: Matchboard is scheduled to launch this month; a pre-bid meeting was held for the Emergency Operations Center (EOC); the Scandinavian Race/40-mile relay is scheduled for Jan. 24 at 7 a.m.; Church Street had water issues with a ribbon-cutting targeted for February pending resolution; a groundbreaking for Riley Drive occurred Jan. 5; and the detention center is awaiting grant funds while recently securing doctor and nurse coverage (the doctor is based in Easley and available 24/7). Council accepted the report as information.
