Council approves long-term solid waste pact with Three Rivers Authority, authorizes up to $30M in bonds

Council gave third reading and approved an amended solid waste service agreement with the Three Rivers Solid Waste Authority on Jan. 5, extending the Authority's contract through 2050, updating tonnage commitments and increasing annual tipping fees. The agreement authorizes the Authority to issue revenue bonds in an amount not to exceed $30 million to fund construction of a new phase.
Administrator Joey R. Preston told council that other landfills charge approximately twice what Bamberg County will pay under the new agreement. Councilman Kenneth Ahlin is recorded in the minutes as voting no on the agreement's third reading; the rest of the council voted to approve the ordinance on third reading.
