The Middletown Springs select board voted to approve and sign a contract with Cargill to supply an estimated 275 tons of road salt at $98.75 per ton. Carl Haines moved to approve the contract and the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Board members framed the decision as a procurement necessary to prepare for winter after highway staff reported supply and delivery challenges. "I will move that we approve and sign ... the Cargill salt contract, 98.75 a ton, 275 tons estimated," Carl Haines said when putting the motion before the board. After the motion and second, the board recorded 'aye' votes and the contract was filed for signature.
The vote followed presentations from highway staff about recent changes in delivery patterns and sand production. Road foreman Bill Reed described recent logistics work with vendors and noted staff have been managing last-minute delivery issues with contractors and suppliers. The board asked staff to continue gathering vendor pricing and documentation for future comparisons and to include the signed contract in correspondence.
The board did not provide a line-item budget breakdown during the meeting; members said relevant invoices and bill codes would be handled through the town's normal accounts payable process and be available in board records.
