Councilors used the July 7 meeting to press state transportation officials to speed work at the Quadrant Road/930 corridor and to open an additional westbound lane to relieve congestion. The council president said he spoke with INDOT and a state representative and urged prioritization of the lane reopening and median removal to restore traffic flow.
The council president said, "I urge them on behalf of the community that they need to get more than 1 westbound traffic lane open. That is the problem." Members discussed enforcement and possible state assistance for traffic patrols and noted the city has applied for federal funding for a pedestrian overpass to improve crossings over the railroad tracks and pedestrian access to event parking.
