Resident urges city help after months of overnight parking at Planet Fitness lot
Summary
A New Haven resident, Roger, told the council that overnight parking, long-term camping and idling semis in the Planet Fitness east parking lot next to his retirement building have diminished residents' sense of safety; he asked the city to connect him to the property owner and district manager.

During public comment on July 7 resident Roger described ongoing overnight parking and long-term occupancy of vehicles in the Planet Fitness east parking lot adjacent to his retirement building, saying the activity has lasted weeks and in one winter case left a woman in a car for months. Roger said police told him private-property enforcement is limited and that Planet Fitness has posted "no overnight parking" signs but lacks an enforcement plan.
Roger said, "Our peace of mind was thrown in the toilet because when Planet Fitness came in, they have no no way of monitoring who stays there in their parking lot. We have people staying overnight. We have campers that were there for about a month, a month and 0.5 living there." Council members offered to connect Roger with the economic development director and the planning director to identify property owner contacts and to check for zoning violations; council staff said they would assist but could not promise an immediate solution.
