The New Haven City Council heard a presentation on July 7 proposing to rezone a 4.8-acre wooded parcel at the northwest corner of Ryan and Edgerton Road from A-1 (agricultural) to I-1 (light industrial) for use by Forest City LLC as a pallet manufacturing site. Planning Director Nathan described the site, noting it borders railroad tracks and clarified, "It's not a sawmill, they will not be making planks there. Their main operations are up out of Grable, but they provide pallets for SDI and superior aluminum."
Council members acknowledged receipt of a Plan Commission recommendation to approve and a motion to amend the zoning map was made and seconded. The presiding officer noted state statute prevents suspending rules for zoning ordinances, so the second reading and final vote will occur at the next council meeting on July 21.
