Teller County highlights 4‑H growth, new fair barn and fairweek plans

Teller County Extension Director Darion Founds told the Board of County Commissioners on June 25 that 4‑H membership in the county increased 23% this year to 113 members and retention improved to 85%. Mr. Founds said the county added nine new volunteers, that youth attended district and state events, and that several members were elected to district leadership positions. "We've seen our retention rates increase the last couple years... We're now retaining 85% of our families each year," he said.
Representatives of the Pikes Peak Or Bust Rodeo and the Girls of the West promoted the NFR Open at the Pikes Peak Rodeo (July 14–18), and county administrator Ross Herzog gave a progress update on fairgrounds construction: roof sheathing and ventilation are installed for the new barn, stalls and separation units are being fitted, and the facility is expected to be available for this year's fair. The board approved the special‑event liquor permit for the Teller County Fair by roll call later in the meeting. Commissioners thanked volunteers and urged residents to attend Teller County Day at the fair on July 25.
