EMS reports modest call-volume increase, new ambulance pending state inspection and radio replacement grant

Chaffee County EMS reported a roughly 1% increase in call volume compared with 2025, a new ambulance pending state inspection, training and credentialing work, and a grant to replace aging portable radios for roughly $67,000 of equipment support.
Chaffee County Emergency Medical Services provided a quarterly operations summary to the board covering call volume, staffing and equipment upgrades.
"We were up, like, 1% over 2025," the EMS lead said when summarizing call-volume comparisons; staff noted a drop in facility transfers (about 16%) and ongoing work to coordinate transfers with hospitals. The department reported that a new ambulance is ready pending a state inspection and described a decommissioning process for older vehicles that must comply with new state requirements.
On equipment, EMS said a grant will help fund replacement portable radios; the county’s share was described as roughly $67,000. The department also described implementation of a medication-scanning inventory platform and several continuing-education courses, including a critical-care skills course and state-approved driver training required by July 1.
Officials said ongoing HIPAA-compliance work and a recruiting/training pipeline remain priorities; commissioners thanked staff and asked for follow-up on inspection scheduling that could affect staffing during large events.
