Building department reports steady permit volume, online payment portal and wildfire-resiliency code progress

Permitting staff told the board that activity continues roughly in line with 2025 and highlighted several commercial and residential projects now in process.
"We had 268 total permits issued in May," the building department representative reported, and said June totals rose to 313. Staff noted year-to-date inspection volumes and several commercial and multifamily projects under review, including a 20-unit apartment application noted in Buena Vista.
The department described continuing education and certification work for electrical inspectors, the countywide adoption of the Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code (effective July 1) and an in-person educational presentation for local stakeholders. Staff also said the county is implementing an online payment portal via Point of Pay and is evaluating more permanent permitting software; estimated implementation for the portal is three to six months.
Commissioners praised the permitting team’s responsiveness and asked staff to return with timelines for software selection and implementation costs for next-year budgeting.
