Sheriff reports fentanyl and crack seizure, asks commissioners to press for jail funding

Sheriff Lancaster reported to the Somerset County Commission on May 7 that deputies executed a search warrant in Fairfield that resulted in an arrest and "the seizure of over 200 grams of fentanyl and crack cocaine." He also told commissioners the Patrol Division is investigating a fatal incident in Anson and that this week is Corrections and Law Enforcement Appreciation Week, during which a barbecue will be provided for employees.
Lancaster asked commissioners to reach out to the Legislature to support the jail-funding proposal being considered in Augusta. He said he had received an official FOIA request from the ACLU concerning detained ICE individuals and had forwarded that request to the County Attorney; the commission discussed the length of time ICE detainees are held and the billing rate associated with detention.
