The Legal Services Corporation has released a veterans legal clinic toolkit designed to help legal aid organizations and partners set up holistic, veteran‑focused clinics. Will Gunn, vice president for legal affairs and general counsel at LSC, opened the episode saying the toolkit aims to promote integrated services for veterans. The podcast cites LSC's 2021 justice gap survey showing that '76 percent of low income veteran households experienced at least 1 civil legal problem' and that many veterans face multiple civil legal needs.
Stephanie Davis, deputy general counsel and ethics officer at LSC and a lead on the Veterans Task Force, said the toolkit details an organizer model centered on three commitments. As Davis put it, '1 is to preregister veterans so that you can assess their legal needs before the clinic.' The toolkit also stresses recruiting veteran service organizations and arranging warm handoffs to other service providers when clinics cannot meet every need. The resource is available at lsc.gov/vets-toolkit and linked in the episode description.
