Planning staff asked the commissioners for permission to apply for a Clean Water Indiana grant that would be administered by Soil & Water and could fund a part-time staff member to assist with erosion-control enforcement and education.
Planner said the three-year grant would be a pass-through administered by Soil & Water, include in-kind county matches and, if awarded, help staff address small-site erosion-control issues that currently lack timely local oversight. Grant-writer Dawn Armee was at the meeting to discuss technical aspects and letters of support were noted.
A commissioner moved to authorize the application and partnership; the board approved the motion by voice. Staff said the grant application is due in September, with awards announced in December; if awarded, the position would be time-limited and county staffing changes would be expected to adapt at the grant’s end.
