"We're excited about being here," Phelps said, and added that the firm’s corporate office is in Columbia, South Carolina, but that staff "currently serve 6 states" and hope to secure IFRS (insurance‑for‑services) funds to serve uninsured residents. She said she spoke with someone at the attorney general’s office who indicated Bertie County had received some opioid‑settlement funds and that her practice would qualify for grant support.
Commissioners acknowledged the introduction and asked staff about how opioid‑settlement funding is being managed and how interested service providers could be connected to the county’s task force and application process. No formal award or grant decision was made at the meeting; Phelps asked the board to consider partnership opportunities and to help point the practice toward local funds and the county task force working on opioid responses.
