Ella Gardner, Eaton County emergency management specialist, told commissioners the county's multi-hazard mitigation plan passed state review and is now undergoing review by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). She said the office selected an intern for the 2025 summer program and participated in exercises including an MGT-460 debris-management planning course and a mass-fatality cold-weather response exercise.
Gardner described two EOC activations tied to severe-weather risks: an activation on March 30 that involved monitoring and outreach, with local impacts that included up to 3,665 customers without power (about 7% of the county), and a second activation on April 2 that ended after conditions abated. She said staff will seek to publish tornado-warning polygons in real time on social media to clarify siren activations and improve situational awareness during severe-weather events.
