The City of Lincoln is now publishing a community events calendar on its website that allows nonprofits, community organizations and residents to submit event listings via a mobile-friendly online form. Chief Innovation and Technology Officer Jennifer Brown demonstrated the calendar and said staff requests submissions at least one week before an event so entries can be vetted and inappropriate listings filtered out.
Brown walked council members through the submission fields—organizer name, event title, start and end times, description, contact, optional website link and uploadable flyer—and showed how approved events appear on the calendar. Multiple public commenters on Zoom praised the launch as a tool for tourism and nonprofit promotion; one commenter said the calendar will "revolutionize our ability of tourism" by making local events easier for visitors to find. The calendar is live on the city site under the "Living Here" menu and staff will monitor submissions before posting.
