Board approves ELOP plan and greenlights new mariachi program pilot

The board approved the district's Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) plan required for grant funding. Dr. Trujillo told trustees ELOP supports extended‑day and extended‑year programming, attendance recovery and intersession activities.
"ELOP is for — it stands for Expanded Learning Opportunities Program, and it does support all of our intercession, meaning breakfast clubs, summer, spring, fall programming that we have for the requirement of the 30 extra days as well as attendance recovery," Dr. Trujillo said. She said the plan has been updated to include an attendance‑recovery section to reflect how ELOP funds are being used.
Dr. Trujillo also described a new mariachi program the district will start for the 2026–27 school year. "The mariachi program that we'll be starting for the 2627 school year is not necessarily paid through ELOP funding, but the grants that we received," she said, and acknowledged logistics are still being worked out; initial offerings may be at the two comprehensive middle schools with transportation options under consideration. Trustees moved to approve the ELOP plan and the motion passed.
The ELOP plan summary will show participating student counts, partners and spring/fall program descriptions; staff will continue coordinating with school sites as enrollment and site staffing dictate.
