During committee updates at the July 27 work session, Council member Ralph summarized recent airport authority activity and financial matters for the council.
Ralph said the airport had about $6,000,000 in FAA grant income this year for completed strengthening projects and that runway and taxiway lighting improvements may be finished. He added that the authority is pursuing business development at the field and that discussions continue about transferring about 108 acres to the city. Ralph said the authority proposed annual payments in the $50,000–$60,000 range for 20 years as a way to recover some of the city’s prior expenditures; councilors said they want guarantees and may pursue payment pledges or a revenue quote bond to secure that income stream.
No formal council action was taken during the update; council members asked staff to continue negotiations and to ensure appropriate guarantees for the city if the transfer proceeds.
