Three Baldwin County utility interns showcase hands-on learning at Fairhope work session

Fairhope City Council members heard from three Baldwin County utility interns on July 27 about summer placements that staff and council said aim to build local workforce pipelines.
Jennifer, the senior HR coordinator who introduced the students, called them "great interns" and thanked council for supporting the program. Kai Harvey, a rising senior at Bayshore Christian School, said the electrical department internship expanded his technical skills: "I've built computers over the past 2 years and just learned so much more than I thought that I could do." Council members praised mentoring staff and encouraged the students as they head into their senior years.
David Stankoski described learning how to change out air‑conditioning units and said the experience reinforced his plan to start an HVAC business. Zane Reynolds, from Spanish Fort High School, said working in the fleet department taught diesel mechanics, hydraulics and welding; he described fabricating a forklift lift bucket with a coworker. Council members and staff emphasized the program’s role in recruiting future city employees and thanked the students and mentors for participating.
The city said the internship week was winding down and that the program is intended to expose students to municipal trades work and create potential pathways into local careers.
