Board approves Verizon antenna modification to improve local coverage

Bell Atlantic (doing business as Verizon) sought approval to modify antenna and equipment on an existing rooftop wireless facility at Commerce Drive. Drew Curran described the work as a modest upgrade to address dropped calls and weak texting service in the area: "Essentially, what's being done is 2 feet is being added to the existing antenna, and we're replacing some cables," he said.
Town staff reviewed recent comments from La Bella Associates and asked the applicant to clarify structural analysis discrepancies and to address whether a 4‑by‑4 HDPE sheet under the foundation is required. The board closed the public hearing after no public comments and approved the site plan and special use application with conditions that La Bella’s comments be addressed and that a building permit be obtained before construction.
