Kessler said the estimated total purchase cost is $95,000 and estimated necessary tools at $45,100; he noted a comparable new rescue truck had been quoted at $434,000 two years earlier to underscore cost savings from a used purchase.
Commissioner Rick Shriver moved "to authorize Clayton Kessler to spend up to $95,000 on the purchase of a used rescue truck, contingent upon satisfactory in person inspection." Commissioner Thomas W. Jones III seconded the motion and the board approved it 3-0. The commissioners discussed trade-in and logistics concerns, including the risk of driving the current truck to Pennsylvania for trade-in and the possibility of selling the current unit at auction or retaining it as a backup.
