Hearst Free Library highlights steady programs, new community partnerships

Director Sam Walters reported the Hearst Free Library continues to host a range of regular programs, from Story Time and Lego Club to meetings of the Rotary Club and the High School Leadership Academy. He said the library is expanding partnerships and programming, including an art and card-game program on the first Monday of each month in conjunction with Amanda Bohrer, TriCounty Tobacco Prevention Specialist.
Walters noted recent outreach successes: the ornament- and book-making program drew over 40 participants, and a staff-organized children's Christmas take-home kit had all 40 kits picked up. "The library continues to host and cohost regularly scheduled meetings and programs such as the Garden Club meetings, Story Time, Lego Club, Coding Club, Rotary Club, High School Leadership Academy meetings," Walters said when presenting the director's report. He added that the Friends of the Library's seasonal events and an upcoming Chocolate, Wine, and Cheese fundraiser in February are part of ongoing community engagement.
Trustees discussed programing options and scheduling. Walters said a summer Shakespeare in the Parks performance is tentatively scheduled for 2026; no final dates were set.
