Animal Services reports 99% live-release rate and drop in intake

Kelly Sauer, speaking for Animal Services, said the shelter started April with 191 animals, took in 205 during the month and adopted 95 animals. She reported transfers of nine animals to other rescues, 59 returns to owners and an ending census of 227 animals, representing a 32% decrease in intake from the same time last year and an 8% increase in adoptions. Sauer said the live-release rate was 99%.
Sauer highlighted two notable items: the shelter adopted 29 dogs from a single home within three days of intake and completed its first Bissell "Empty the Shelters" event, which contributed to more than 70 adoptions over two weeks. She also noted Animal Control responded to 480 calls in the month and that 12 court cases remain open.
