Economic development staff and the downtown event coordinator reported that the Don Welge Memorial Bridge opening will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026, beginning at 7 a.m. with a 5K Race Across the River and concluding about noon with a ribbon cutting. The city prepared temporary parking for the event by striping a large grassy area at the airport, creating 588 spaces; staff said this first lot was free but similar future lots would have a one-time $2,500 program fee.
City Administrator Brent Buerck also reminded board members that parking passes will be delivered and must be displayed for VIP parking; attendees without passes should park at the airport and use the shuttle. Staff expects logistics and shuttle service to support the event; no controversies or budgetary overruns were reported in the minutes.
