Kenton County staff report upgrades across parks, sports courts and trail safety improvements

Kenton County Parks & Recreation staff summarized a slate of recent capital and maintenance work across county parks during the commission's May 20 meeting. Staff reported new disc golf tee signage and replacement tee pads at Lincoln Ridge, a borrowed dock installed at Doe Run Lake to support dragon-boat practice, and emergency trail markers placed along the Doe Run loop.
Rhonda Ritzi, a county parks staff member, told the commission that at Pioneer Park walking paths are being repaved and fencing at baseball field No. 2 has been replaced; shelter 2 and the baseball restrooms are scheduled for upgrades in fiscal year 2027. At Middleton-Mills Park, curbing around a traditional playground was completed and construction of a sports court that will include basketball and pickleball is underway with a targeted finish date of July 1.
Staff also reported routine seasonal work: baseball fields at Lincoln Ridge, Pioneer and Mills 1 & 2 were prepped for play; painting touch-ups on shelters and picnic tables were completed; water was turned on for the season; pipes at Mills Football were replaced following weather damage; and vinyl fencing at multiple parks was pressure washed. The commission noted continued progress on the master plan for the New Kenton County Park.
