The Huntsville Town Planning Commission on Oct. 24 tabled a land-use permit application from David Morse for an addition and attached carport at 6834 E 200 S (parcel #240170037), citing concerns that the submitted plan did not meet the updated connection requirement in Town Code 15.6.2. The clerk circulated a revised site plan showing existing structures and the proposed work; commissioners asked the applicant to change the design so the addition is directly connected to the primary dwelling rather than functioning as a separate unit. Chairman Allen Endicott moved to table the application and PCM Steve Songer seconded; the motion passed with all ayes.
During the discussion Mr. Morse stated for the record that "the front setback was 33", same as the existing home," and the commission reviewed applicable language that was updated in 2023 to prohibit two dwelling units on a lot unless the addition is directly connected. Town Council liaison Sandy Hunter and the commissioners advised Morse to revise and refile plans that show the required direct connection; Morse acknowledged the change that would be necessary and said he would resubmit the revised site plans for the next meeting.
The tabled status means no permit was issued; applicants seeking similar additions should demonstrate in their site plan how the extension will be attached to the primary dwelling and show compliance with setback and breezeway rules before the commission will act.
