Joshua Kite of Mechanicsville, who said he is running for county commissioner, asked the Board of County Commissioners to postpone adoption of the St. Mary’s 2050 comprehensive plan until after newly elected commissioners are sworn in.
“Please postpone the adoption of the 2050 comprehensive plan until after the new county commissioners are sworn in,” Kite said, arguing the plan will shape the county for the next 25 years and that many residents are only now learning about it. He said a short delay would allow more public outreach, questions, and community confidence in the process.
Kite framed his request as nonpartisan and aimed at increasing public participation: the plan, he said, “will determine where homes are built, where businesses grow, how our roads are planned, how our schools are impacted, and what kind of county we leave to my kids and the next generation.” The commissioners closed public sign‑ups after a lengthy comment period; the board said it will collect comments and address concerns during its official deliberations on the plan.
