Chair proposed adding a vehicle-mileage reporting requirement to the board policy so the county could track mileage on each vehicle and plan for replacements. "If we know the mileage once a year, we can say, okay...we can try and start budgeting money every year to set aside so we're not taking these big hits when we need," the Chair said.
Members discussed when to collect mileage (end of year or after January) and how the data could help the sheriff’s department and other departments avoid surprise budget requests for multiple vehicle purchases in the same year. No final vote was recorded; the Chair suggested the item be placed in committee and discussed further.
